Rasmussen in disbelief after 'massive comeback' to win Formula E: Accelerate, €20,000 and Gen2 drive

Frederik Rasmussen will get his hands on a €20,000 top prize and a drive in a real Gen2 Formula E car after being crowned Formula E: Accelerate Drivers' Champion in the esports series' Rome Grand Final.

Frede Rasmussen (DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT) took a hat-trick of pole position, fastest lap and the race win in the double-points Grand Final in Rome to seal the Formula E: Accelerate Drivers' Championship by 12 points, ahead of longstanding leader Erhan Jajovski (ROKiT Venturi Racing).

Rasmussen led lights-to-flag whilst Jajovski tried his utmost to mount a comeback. At the midway point of the race the DRAGON racer set the fastest lap which gave him the points he needed to pip the North Macedonian with Jajovski toppled from the standings lead for the first time in the entire six-race series.

RACE REPORT: Rasmussen crowned Formula E: Accelerate Champion

That all saw Rasmussen crowned Formula E: Accelerate Drivers' Champion, and he takes the €20,000 top prize and a drive in a real Gen2 Formula E car.

The Dane can scarcely believe it, given he's a relative newcomer to rFactor 2 in what was a field of 24 elite sim racers - and that the man he toppled at the last goes by the 'rFactor GOAT' moniker in some corners of the community.

"I’m really, really happy - I can’t believe it to be honest," he said. "I didn’t have any clue about the standings, and couldn’t see where Erhan (Jajovski) was during the race.

"When I got out of the car and saw him in fifth, I just couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t mapped the button to see the positions!

"It’s been a huge learning curve and a massive comeback. I was ninth after race one, so to go from there to win it is just insane.

"I’ve done basically nothing in a real race car and I’m in bad shape, so I’m going to have to do something about that before I jump into the Gen2 car! I’m trying to buy an apartment so the prize money will really help with that."
