Relive the final qualifying duel in Mexico City as Mortara reaches the limit

Edoardo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) saw Julius Baer Pole Position slip through his fingers as he crossed the line sideways in qualifying, losing his early Finals advantage to slip to second by 0.273 seconds to eventual polesitter Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team).

The Drivers’ World Championship leader was on the ragged edge as he looked to keep a rapid-Wehrlein at bay – the Porsches had been hooked up from the green light in Free Practice 1. Mortara made a mistake through the tricky stadium section and danced through the Peraltada to try and make amends, eventually pushing beyond the limit and sliding across the line sideways - opening the door for Wehrlein., but there we go!"

"I could feel it through the corner," said the Swiss Italian. "I had no more rear tyres and the line is quite close to the exit of the turn and I decided to keep it flat.

"I knew what was coming but I wanted to give it my best shot. At least I gave it everything to go for pole position. It didn't work out."
