Rising Moroccan single-seater star Michael Benyahia will get his first taste of the FIA Formula E Championship car when he gets behind the wheel for a street demonstration on November 10th ahead of the Marrakesh ePrix.
Sixteen-year-old Benyahia started karting aged 10 and became the youngest ever graduate of the FFSA Academy to race in the French F4 Championship, where he is currently third in the championship.
The roadshow will take place at the Avenue Hassan II where fans can come and watch Benyahia make history on the streets of Marrakesh from 4pm.
Benyahia said: “I’m very excited about getting into the car as I’m probably the youngest to drive it. I feel I’m lucky to drive a Formula E car as racing in this series would be a dream and I will work hard to make it happen as soon as possible.
“Formula E is one of the most promising racing series and racing in the middle of Marrakesh will be a big show and I’m proud that it will be in my country - that’s why I hope to see all Moroccan fans there.
“I wear the Moroccan colours on my helmet and I have the jemaa el Fna place (Symbol of Marrakesh) on the back of my helmet... so fans will recognize me easily and I can’t wait to meet them.”
The 2.97km anti-clockwise Circuit Automobile Moulay El Hassan is home to the first Formula E race in North Africa. The 12-turn street track has hosted international motorsport in the shape of the World Touring Car Championship. Formula E stars Jose Maria Lopez and Qing Hua Ma have both raced there previously, with ‘Pechito’ a two-time winner.
