FP3 REPORT: Jake Dennis goes quickest in final Jeddah Practice

As the sun shone down in Saudi Arabia, Jake Dennis went top of the times ahead of qualifying.

Jake Dennis was best of the rest for Andretti in the final Free Practice in Jeddah, with a warm session delivering some big storylines ahead of qualifying at 15:40 local time later today. After a tough day during yesterday’s race, this news will be a good boost to the Season 9 champion and the American team.

Joined by Dennis in the top five fastest drivers was Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) in second, fresh from his podium yesterday. CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum was third, with yesterday’s polesitter Edoardo Mortara fourth for Mahindra Racing and the man who lined up alongside him on the grid, Maximilian Guenther (DS PENSKE) in fifth.

As it happened...

The sun was beating down for the final practice of the weekend, with these conditions not super representative of the cooler weather later tonight.

There was an early issue for Nyck de Vries, who couldn't get his Mahindra Racing car out the garage at the start of the session. Unfortunately the Season 7 World Champion didn’t start yesterday's race, after failing to get away on the grid and will be serving a 60-place grid penalty for changing the MCU and is also two MGUs in excess of the limit. He did get out on track though, and eventually finished the session in 15th

His teammate was looking strong though, following from his Julius Baer Pole Position yesterday. With 17 minutes left on the clock Edoardo Mortara set the fastest time, but was quickly demoted as Mitch Evans, Maximilian Guenther and Jake Dennis all banked better lap times as the session reached its final 10 minutes.

Antonio Felix da Costa had been on a quick lap during the final moments of the session, but found himself in traffic towards the end of the lap. There was almost contact between him and the Citroën Racing of Jean-Eric Vergne, with the two-time champ slow on the racing line and blocking the end of the lap.

In the end it was Jake Dennis who got the best time, with laps not improving as the chequered flag came out. He was followed by Evans, and CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum third.
