FIA Girls On Track returns for the 2022 Mexico City E-Prix on 11 February at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The event will feature at four destinations across the 2021/22 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar and involve over 600 young females from around the world.
The initiative is open to girls aged 8-18 from all backgrounds and with no motorsport experience required. FIA Girls On Track aims to show girls all of the opportunities within the world of motorsport. From living in the fast lane as a driver, to working behind the scenes as one of the engineers working on the fastest cars on track, helping them realise their dreams, gain confidence and learn first-hand what life working in the world of motorsport is like.
Global partners ABB and DHL will be hosting activities all day to educate and inspire girls with hands-on experiences. Participants will also get an invite back to the track to watch all the action on raceday at the Mexico City E-Prix.
Girls have heard from women within the industry travelling around the world with Formula E such as doctors, marshals, presenters, media managers and mechanics. Girls on Track is an opportunity to hear about these inspiring females' passions, their pathways and have the opportunity to ask questions on how they could get their dream jobs.
Girls can also expect to hone their driving skills with the e-karting activity, as well as watch their favourite drivers compete for the win in the Mexico City E-Prix.
Founded in 2016 by Susie Wolff, female motorsport initiative Dare To Be Different (D2BD) had a mission to increase female participation, not only on track, but in all aspects of the sport and other perceived male-dominated industries, and has gained respect the world over. In 2019 the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission teamed up with Susie Wolff and Dare To Be Different to pilot an exciting new educational programme for girls aged between 8 and 18 years old.
Following the successful Dare To be Different activations at the Mexico City, Berlin E-Prix’ and Diriyah E-Prix the model was adopted by the FIA for its Girls On Track programme to take forward on a global scale be known officially as FIA Girls On Track.
