The polesitter's ultimately dominant third win of the season was sealed during the PIT BOOST window.
Werhlein was able to make use of a timely Full Course Yellow (FCY) - thrown for the recovery of Lucas di Grassi's Lola Yamaha ABT - to make what effectively became a free pit stop with the pack neutralised by the caution.
RESULTS: The 2026 Hankook London E-Prix Round 16
Mitch Evans had been looking to mount a challenge from third despite the Porsches of Wehrlein and Mueller working together, against him, early on. Jaguar TCS Racing switched up his strategy to clear Mueller with an early ATTACK MODE deployment and PIT BOOST stop - forcing leader Werhlein to counter.
The FCY put paid to Evans' charge, though, and left the Kiwi marooned 21 points back in the standings in third spot.
Dennis was another of several drivers that pitted during FCY and elected to take his ATTACK late to clamber from the cusp of the top six to second at the flag with moves by da Costa and Ticktum key in limiting Wehrlein's new gap at the top of the Drivers' standings to five points.
Da Costa did take third for Jaguar; important in the Teams' battle with Porsche - the British outfit five points to the good over the Stuttgart marque.
The finale takes place at the Excel in London on Sunday 16 August, with two titles to be decided as the GEN3 era comes to a close.
As it happened...
Wehrlein led the pack away through the tight Turns 1, 2 and 3 complex and drew out a 2.3 second lead by the start of Lap 3 over teammate Mueller and Mitch Evans in the Jaguar.
Lap 6 and Wehrlein still held the advantage out front while Mueller held Evans and the rest of the chasing pack back. Wehrlein led Muellier, Evans, Ticktum, Dennis, Vergne, da Costa, Eriksson, Buemi and de Vries.
Drugovich was first to jump for his 50kW all-wheel drive ATTACK MODE boost on Lap 5 while the field was neutralised by a Full Course Yellow for the recovery of Zane Maloney's Lola Yamaha ABT, trapped trackside with a broken driveshaft.
The Andretti driver took PIT BOOST first on Lap 16, followed by Evans and Vergne - Mitch the first of the lead group to pit.
Evans then took ATTACK while leader Wehrlein countered by upping the pace and increasing his gap to the rest while Mueller, Eriksson, de Vries and Rowland all pitted on Lap 17.
Mueller emerged ahead of Evans but the Jaguar driver made his 50kW boost count to sweep by the German through Sector 2.
That move forced Wehrlein into ATTACK, before the leader had taken his PIT BOOST stop.
Lap 21 saw heartbreak for Lucas di Grassi on his final weekend - the Brazilian finding the wall straight on at Turn 9. A Full Course Yellow followed, allowing Wehrlein effectively a free pit stop - along with Ticktum in P2, da Costa, Dennis, Buemi, Mortara and Barnard.
Once the stops shook out, Ticktum managed to make his way from fourth to second by Dennis and da Costa on Lap 28. Dennis then squeezed around the outside of da Costa a lap later at Turn 1 to make a move stick into Turn 2. Key in the title battle with leader Wehrlein out-front.
Dennis made the same pass a lap later on Ticktum at the same spot - the Brit ensuring he'd be within five points of Wehrlein if the result stuck.
With the Teams' World Championship still up for grabs, da Costa made it by Ticktum for third, which could prove key.
Ticktum tried to push back on Lap 38 but a mistimed move on da Costa wound up with him being shuffled to seventh as the pack behind pounced.
Wehrlein was able to waltz home with a five-second lead over Dennis at the flag - leaving the pair to fight it out as the standings' top two on Sunday in the finale.

It all comes down to this. After a season of nail-biting drama, the fight for the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads to London for a season-ending double-header on the world’s only indoor/outdoor circuit.
With just two races remaining in the GEN3 era, nine drivers still in mathematical title contention, and the crown on the line, there’s zero margin for error at the London ExCeL.
