Across 12 seasons of Formula E, only a select few can say they’ve been victorious on home soil. Winning your home event is a special – and rare – achievement, and often a dream for most drivers, but how often has that happened in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship?
From nerve-wracking overtakes on iconic city streets to emotional maiden victories, a select group of drivers have overcome the immense pressure of their home crowds to take the chequered flag. Here are the elite Formula E drivers who delivered unforgettable victories on home turf.
Jake Dennis in London (2021 and 2022)
Standing on the top step at your home race is a rare feat, but Andretti’s Jake Dennis has managed it twice and is the only person on this list to do so.
During the London E-Prix in both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, Dennis dominated the opening race of both double-headers. In 2021, he converted a front-row start into a decisive victory, finishing over five seconds clear of Nyck de Vries. The following year, Dennis delivered a commanding lights-to-flag win over Stoffel Vandoorne, then backed it up with a second-place finish the next day on London's unique indoor-outdoor circuit.
While he missed out on a hat-trick of London wins in 2022/23, Dennis clinched the Drivers’ World Championship at the ExCeL London instead—becoming the first British driver in Formula E history to secure the crown on home soil.
Jean-Eric Vergne in Paris (2018)
Citroën Racing’s Jean-Éric Vergne claimed a memorable home victory during the 2018 Paris E-Prix. Starting from pole position, the Frenchman kept his composure on the streets of Paris, fending off Sam Bird and André Lotterer through mid-race car swaps to secure the win with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
Calling it the "most emotional" victory of his career, Vergne admitted he couldn't even speak as he crossed the finish line. The win was a special birthday milestone in a dominant year that saw him go on to claim his first Drivers' Championship.
Vergne repeated his title glory in the following season, making him the only back-to-back champion in Formula E history. Très bien, JEV!
Taylor Barnard in London (2026)
The most recent addition to this list is Taylor Barnard, who became Formula E’s youngest-ever winner when he took his maiden victory at the final race of the 2025/26 in London.
Surrounded by friends and family, the young Briton was able to pass both Mahindra’s as the race drew to a close and added his name into the record books as the World Championship’s youngest winner aged 22 years, two months and 15 days. Racing for DS PENSKE, Barnard’s silverware also meant that all teams recorded at least one podium result and all but one team achieved a victory across the season.
Maximilian Guenther in Berlin (2020)
During the 2019/20 campaign, Maximilian Guenther claimed a thrilling victory on home soil at the Berlin E-Prix while driving for BMW i Andretti Motorsport.
Competing at the Tempelhof Airport circuit, Guenther executed a daring pass on Jean-Éric Vergne for the lead with just four minutes remaining. Ignoring team instructions to wait until the final lap, the German made the move stick to secure his second career Formula E win.
The tense victory showcased his huge potential, and Guenther has since added five more wins – seven total – to his resume, most recently taking top honors at the 2025 Shanghai E-Prix for DS PENSKE but moves to Paysafe Envision Racing for GEN4.
Sam Bird in London (2015)
Having been a part of Formula E since its inaugural season, Sam Bird has had plenty of opportunities to lock in a home win. Nevertheless, he didn't need it, as he won the London E-Prix in Formula E's very first season.
Navigating himself around the picturesque Battersea Park in England's capital, Bird won the final round of Season 1 in 2015. Repping Virgin Racing at the time, the Briton - born not at all far away in Roehampton - ended his maiden season on a high.
“What a way to finish [the season],” Bird said at the time. “Unbelievable, unbelievable. The race today was a great race, starting from fourth. We were very strong and I was able to attack people into Turn 11, and we made the moves stick which is nice.”
Oliver Rowland in London (2024)
Prior to his London win in 2024, Oliver Rowland had never scored a single point at a home E-Prix.
After missing the penultimate round in Portland due to illness, Rowland was out of championship contention, allowing him to race without pressure. He stayed patient in the lead group, capitalising as the title contenders battled around him to swoop ahead and cross the line first.
The breakthrough home win proved to be a sign of things to come, setting the stage for Rowland to go on and claim the 2024/25 Drivers' World Championship.
Daniel Abt in Berlin (2018)
Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler's Daniel Abt was on a mission during 2018’s race around Berlin’s historic Tempelhof Airport Circuit. Having achieved his maiden victory four races before in Mexico City, Abt was ready to repeat his success at his and Audi's home race.
Abt signed off a career-defining race weekend with a commanding lights-to-flag win on home soil at the popular venue. He also claimed pole position and the fastest lap – a then-unique feat in Formula E.
As well as Abt’s first place, his teammate Lucas di Grassi, was able to finish in second making it an Audi 1-2 result at their home event.
Alex Lynn in London (2021)
Representing Mahindra Racing, Alex Lynn secured a memorable home victory during the 2021 London E-Prix double-header, following Jake Dennis' win the previous day.
After finishing third on Saturday, Lynn took the top step just 24 hours later, earning his first and only victory in Formula E. Four years after earning pole position on his debut in New York City, the Briton finally tasted champagne on home soil at the Excel Arena.
The emotional breakthrough sparked wild celebrations in the pit lane, with Team Principal Dilbagh Gill famously leaping for joy as Lynn crossed the chequered flag to complete back-to-back British wins.
The 2026/27 Formula E season will commence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 18 & 19.
