Buemi: Di Grassi has been lucky

Defending Formula E champion Sebastien Buemi reckons his nearest title rival Lucas di Grassi has been lucky so far this season.

Buemi saw his championship lead cut to just five points after di Grassi won last time out in Mexico, despite having to pit for a new rear wing.

“I don’t want to sound rude but because they (Lucas Di Grassi) made mistakes it turned out to be some luck, again,” he said. “I mean in qualifying in Hong Kong, he had a crash and because of that he had an accident in the first lap and because of the accident and because of this there was a Safety Car, they tend to have a very risky strategy in Mexico and in Hong Kong and it worked out very well. So congratulations to them but I am not sure it will be like that every weekend, so clearly I’m going to focus on not doing mistakes myself but they have made quite a few this season already.”

Buemi was the winner at the first Monaco ePrix in 2015, but he knows that he will have his work cut out to win again on Saturday and open up the championship lead once more.

“I think the most important thing for us is to have a good weekend and we know we have the speed to be up the front, it’s not going to be an easy one for us here, as you know it’s going to be difficult to overtake, we are going to put a lot of effort into the car to qualify well. The championship is still young, we still only had four races, we can’t have any conclusions. I’m confident we can have a good weekend.”

The Monaco ePrix starts at 4pm (local) time on Saturday, May 13. To find out where you can watch it live, click here
