The Nissan Concept 20-23 has been designed to celebrate 20 years of Nissan Design Europe at an event in London, with CEO and President Makoto Uchida in attendance.
As hot as EV hot hatches come
The new concept is directly inspired by Nissan's Formula E program, with the brief of creating an electric car that'd be fun to drive on the streets where they work
"The young team here at NDE was given a simple brief: design a fun electric city car that you’d like to drive every day in London," said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design.
"The 20-23 Concept that they designed is a compact hatchback which is strongly influenced by the online racing world. I love the story it tells about how the worlds of modern city living, online gaming and zero emissions mobility intersect."
The Concept 20-23 is mean and moody and covered in aero but with what the company calls a "friendly" appearance at the front and rear with circular LEDs. There's real venting to cool the cabin, brakes and powertrain, with air directed through ducts and out around huge flared arches and a big rear spoiler.
Its interior looks just as racy, with a race car-esque wheel inside a bright, open cockpit.
There's no detail yet on what it might cost, power or whether this car will remain a vision, or become the base for a new, hot version of one of Nissan's familiar hatches like the Micra. We can't wait to hear more, though!
