Edoardo Mortara was best of the race for Mahindra Racing during the first practice of the 2026 TDK Tokyo E-Prix. The Swiss driver sits sixth in the drivers’ standings and will hope he can have a successful weekend to help his chances going into the London finale next month.

Two tenths behind Mortara was Maximilian Guenther for DS PENSKE, with a time of 1m13.322s, with Jake Dennis third for Andretti at the chequered flag. The Andretti team have had a busy weekend before, showcasing its new shiny silver and blue livery in collaboration with Liberty Walk as well as announcing they would be using Nissan powertrains from GEN4.

Championship leader Pascal Wehrlein finished fourth for Porsche, with Jaguar TCS Racing’s Antonio Felix da Costa rounding out the top five during the wet session as the top 13 were all separated by a second.

As it happened…

The session began at 19:15 local, after rain and storms caused brief delays. However, that didn’t stop the grid making their way out on track as soon as possible, with the sun now set over the Tokyo skyline.

Drivers were exploring all the tarmac available, with a real mix of dry and wet conditions across a lap. They all managed to keep out of trouble, keeping things clean on track and making sure they stayed away from the barriers which are close here at this street circuit, apart from Pepe Marti who clipped his wheel against the wall as he headed in Turn 3.

Several special liveries for this weekend made their debuts, with Andretti opting for a silver chrome and blue Liberty Walk design. CUPRA KIRO have also changed their look, with Nissan opting for a dark grey livery which looks sleek under the floodlights.
