This week, Formula E and Teams head to Goodwood Festival of Speed to showcase the progress of innovation in electric motorsport. As part of these celebrations, Jaguar TCS Racing will field Fernando Barichello (son of Formula One race winner Rubens Barichello) behind the wheel of the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE at the iconic Goodwood Hillclimb.
Formula E and Teams showcase electric racing evolution at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE is Jaguar’s most advanced race car to date and is currently in the midst of an intense test programme ahead of the first rounds of the 2026/2027 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in December.
Capable of reaching speeds in excess of 335kph, 0-100kph in approximately 1.8 seconds, and 0-200kph in just 4.4 seconds - 1.5 seconds faster than its predecessor - GEN4 will deliver 50% more power in race mode than the current GEN3 Evo race car. The GEN4 car will be an average of 10 seconds faster per lap than the GEN3 car in qualifying mode. In ATTACK MODE, GEN4 produces up to 600kW of power, a 71% increase in base output over GEN3 Evo, delivering performance that pushes the limits of electric racing. GEN4 is the only single-seater race car with permanent all-wheel drive.
For Barichello, a Euroformula Open Championship race winner who is currently competing in FIA Formula 3, this will be a first time at the Goodwood Hillclimb.
Fernando Barrichello, Jaguar TCS Racing driver, said: “I am honoured to drive for Jaguar TCS Racing at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is the first time I have driven the famous Hillclimb, and to do it with a World Championship-winning team is a real privilege. It is going to be very exciting to drive the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE at Goodwood. There is so much anticipation around the new GEN4 era of Formula E that to drive the car at such an iconic event as Goodwood is going to be incredible.”
Ian James, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, said: “Putting the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE through its paces at Goodwood Festival of Speed is going to be a milestone moment for the whole team and Formula E, as we show thousands of people just what the GEN4 cars are going to be capable of.
“It is also a great moment to welcome Fernando into the team. Giving a platform to young talent is important to us and bringing the iconic Barrichello name to Goodwood is going to be very special. We look forward to seeing Fernando take on the Hillclimb.”
