Jaguar Type 01 Road Car debuts in Monaco

Jaguar have given the world a first glimpse of their electric luxury four-door GT, the Type 01, in Monaco ahead of the Formula E double-header this weekend.

The name is a call to several things, with Type referencing its legendary predecessors, 0 is for zero tailpipe emissions, and 1 for the first of a new generation. Designed, developed and built in the heart of the UK. The new name unites the brand’s history of innovation in design, technology and performance with the most advanced Jaguar ever.

The Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will appear at the Monaco E-Prix, wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap, as Jaguar TCS Racing fights for victory across Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May in the principality.

The first of its type is an unmistakable presence achieved through an innovative new body architecture. Tri-motor technology delivers more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque.

The ‘Type’ naming first appeared on the Le Mans race-winning C-type of 1951. On the road, it came to represent two characters in one car: an engaging drive with deep reserves of power, plus refinement and composure.

Jaguar have won four of the first eight races so far this season, with two wins each for their drivers Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!’” Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap, ahead of the Formula E race weekend.
