Following the news that Sam Bird would be flying the Envision Virgin Racing nest and heading to Panasonic Jaguar Racing next season, the team has announced that rising star and Japanese Super Formula champion Nick Cassidy will be his replacement.
Cassidy will step into the fold alongside Robin Frijns for season seven off the back of achieving the triple crown of Japanese motorsport, aged just 25.
The Kiwi is regarded as one of the most promising talents in motorsport as a result of his expolits to-date, with Japanese Super GT, Formula 3 and Super Formula titles already under his belt.
He has also illustrated his capabilities in Gen2 Formula E machinery, with a new lap record in Marrakesh on his first outing with the team at the Rookie Test back in March on his way to topping the timesheets.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to be joining Formula E and Envision Virgin Racing from next season,” said Cassidy. “The team is one of the most successful on the grid, have a great set-up and facilities, and have continually impressed me since I joined them for the Rookie Test back in March.
"All drivers know the depth and quality of the field in Formula E is among the best in the world, so it is great to be adding my name to this roster.”
