FP2: Da Costa sets the practice pace in Monaco

FP2: Da Costa sets the practice pace in Monaco

Antonio Felix da Costa (DS TECHEETAH) flew to the top of the times in Free Practice 2 ahead of the 2022 Monaco E-Prix, with a 1m30.435s.

The Season 6 champion headed Jaguar TCS Racing's double Rome winner Mitch Evans by 0.2 seconds.

A number of drivers were caught testing the limits ahead of qualifying, with Dan Ticktum looking to steal every inch in the braking zones but firing his NIO 333 long into the run off outside Sainte Devote and Antonio Giovinazzi (DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT) clipping the wall on the exit of the Swimming Pool - as did Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) who clouted the barrier trying to improve on his fourth-fastest time.

The session was red flagged half way through after Alexander Sims' Mahindra Racing ground to a halt with what looked like a technical issue down at Rascasse.

Robin Frijns (Envision Racing) had set the pace prior to that stoppage as the Dutchman left nothing on the table on his way to an eventual fastest time.

Maximilian Guenther made it two Nissan e.dams top fives in two sessions, with reigning champion Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-EQ) rounding out the top six.

More than just lap times

Lap times aren't the only focus in practice. Drivers and engineers will be working flat out to understand things like energy management profiles and setup ahead of qualifying and the race later in the day - particularly at the opening race weekend of the season.

SCHEDULE: All the timings for the Monaco E-Prix

On top of energy management, teams work through everything from their systems, setups, FANBOOST and ATTACK MODE deployments and launches throughout practice to make sure they're on-point when it counts.

Coverage of qualifying ahead of the 2022 Monaco E-Prix follows at 10:45 with the race itself at 15:00. In the meantime, catch up with the full preview.
