Buemi clinches second Pole for New York season finale

Audi starts behind Techeetah in battle for teams' title in New York City

Buemi clinches second Pole for New York season finale

As the track started to dry up here in New York City, the ABB FIA Formula E Championship's first wet Qualifying session in the series' four-year history, it was Renault e.dams Sebastien Buemi who clinched his second Pole of the weekend with a 1:17.973s lap.

With both Techeetah Formula E and both Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler cars through to the Super Pole shootout, the teams' title contenders battled together with Buemi in a heated Super Pole shootout. Starting behind Buemi will be the two Techeetah drivers Andre Lotterer in second and newly crowned drivers' champion Jean-Eric Vergne in third.

For Audi's Daniel Abt and yesterday's race winner Lucas di Grassi, they will start the race in fourth and fifth respectively. With Techeetah leading Audi by five points in the Team's championship race, the German manufacturer will need to work hard to pass both Techeetah's in the race to clinch the title. After Vergne wrapped up the drivers' championship yesterday, can the Chinese team double up here in New York City?

After starting in second yesterday, Panasonic Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans will start the final race in New York in sixth, after just missing out on Super Pole. Despite the Jaguar driver's solid starting position yesterday, he retired from the race within the opening laps due to technical difficulties. With his teammate Nelson Piquet Jn. qualifying behind him in seventh, the two Jaguar's will be looking for an encouraging finish to what has been an indifferent season for the UK manufacturer. "We're both ready, we're both hungry - I think it's going to be a good race today, we're both going to help each other," said Evan's teammate Nelson Piquet Jn.

For MS&AD Andretti Formula E's Antonio Felix da Costa, the Portuguese driver struggled in the Qualifying session after problems with the car. Failing to set a time, the Andretti driver will start at the back of the grid. "To be honest, at the end of Free Practice I felt something strange. It sums up my season," said da Costa.

With thunder rumbling in the distance, the final race of Season 4 could be the first wet race in Formula E history. "Maybe it's the last race for the Gen1 car that will be a wet race?" said Venturi Formula E's Maro Engel who starts the race in seventeenth, three places behind his teammate Tom Dillmann in 14th.
