Watch: Jaguar's I-Pace take on Tesla

See Mitch Evans and Jag's I-Pace go head-to-head with two Teslas

Watch: Jaguar's I-Pace take on Tesla

We've been waiting patiently for this one for quite a while now but finally, the time has come. Welcome, one and all, to the Jaguar I-Pace - the marque's first all-electric production car.

Revealed during a live global broadcast ahead of round five of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Mexico City, Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Mitch Evans had the honours of putting the car through its paces (excuse the pun) at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. So, just a normal road test then? Well, not quite.

Lining up alongside two Tesla Model X's - the 75D and 100D - Evans took on both cars behind the wheel of the I-Pace in a 0km/h-100km/h-0km/h challenge. To make things fair, the Tesla's were piloted by none other than former IndyCar series champion Tony Kanaan. The result? Well, you'll just have to see for yourself by watching the video below.

With a 90kWh Lithium-ion battery, the I-Pace will touch 100km/h in just 4.8seconds alongside a 480km range, with Jag claiming that an 80 per cent charge will take just 40 minutes using a DC rapid charger. With well over a year's experience in the world's first all-electric racing series, the I-Pace is another example of Formula E team technology transitioning to the road. On top of all that, it's only a matter of months until the I-Pace lines up on the startline for Formula E's E-Trophy support series.

With the car's first public debut on the March 6 at the Geneva Motor Show (that's the same day as our Gen2 car launch, by the way) the I-Pace is now on sale with prices starting from £63,495 in the UK.

Stay tuned to find out more about the I-Pace and the Gen2 car on March 6. Season five is starting to look very interesting indeed. Care to join us, Mr Musk...?
