Global technology and capital goods group team up with the series for European campaign in Season 5

Formula E partners with voestalpine for European races

Starting in Season 5 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, global leading technology and capital goods group voestalpine will put its name to the European leg of the series, where the fully-electric next generation of Formula E cars make their way across the continent competing in iconic city-centre locations.

With Formula E working as a platform to accelerate the development of road-relevant technologies and speed-up the mass adoption of electric vehicles around the world, the electric race series will work closely with voestalpine to make further advancements in the field of e-mobility and assist with technology transfer.

“Formula E is the most relevant platform to trial and test the latest technological innovations in the automotive sector and partnering with leading companies such as voestalpine allows the series to further develop in the field of e-mobility," said Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag. "Both brands have a shared strategic focus tailored towards dynamism, speed and creativity. I look forward to working closely with voestalpine for the European races in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship from next season and continuing to set future mobility trends.”

Featuring the radical new Gen2 Formula E car, Season 5 of the championship will see more car manufacturers take to the circuit than ever before in Formula E's history, in a bid to clinch the championship title.

“Accounting for around a third of our Group revenue, for years the automotive industry has been a key driver of innovation and growth at voestalpine. With our comprehensive automotive expertise, we see huge potential to grow faster than in the traditional segments, especially in the electromobility sector, said Wolfgang Eder, CEO of voestalpine AG. "Both Formula E and voestalpine are international pioneers when it comes to literally putting tomorrow’s technologies on today’s roads, and making them ready for series production. The aim of our partnership with Formula E is to jointly develop electromobility further, as well as to encourage technology transfer between automotive suppliers, manufacturers, and customers.”
