EDF joins as local partner in the French capital

EDF partners with the Visa Paris ePrix

On Saturday April 23, Paris will welcome for the very first time the FIA Formula E Championship, which will take to the streets of the city on a temporary track around Les Invalides, and EDF - which is actively involved in electric mobility - has naturally decided to be a part of this exceptional event as an official sponsor.

Formula E is the world’s first all-electric single-seater racing series. The Parisian background is the perfect setting for the first Formula E race in France and will showcase the potential of electric cars.

In 2014, EDF signed a three-year agreement to become an FIA technical partner. EDF conducts research and development for the FIA focused on propulsion, charge and electric safety in motorsport. The results of those tests have been applied in Formula E. The common objective is to create electric and hybrid competition in motorsport to increase the pace of development of those new technologies and promote the use of electric cars.

Sam Piccione III, Chief Revenue Officer at Formula E, said: “As we embark on the inaugural running of Formula E in the French capital, we are proud to have local companies such as EDF supporting the race. The Visa Paris ePrix is the perfect example of showcasing electric vehicles in an urban setting, which is a key aim of the championship. I’d like to thank EDF for their vision to support the event.”

Bernard Salha, Head of R&D of EDF, said: “The development of electric mobility is a strong component of the energy transition to which EDF is completely committed. That is why I am very proud that we are a part of the first ever Paris ePrix. This event demonstrates the reliability and the performance of electric vehicles, and it illustrates the expertise of EDF with regard to innovation and technological progress.”
