Rowland sets sub-50second lap in Monaco ahead of Qualifying

Nissan e.dams' Oliver Rowland becomes the first driver in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship to set a sub-50 second lap in Monaco, after completing a 00:49.847s lap of the 1.765km circuit. The British driver was followed by reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah) with a time of 00:49.970s and his teammate Andre Lotterer with a time of 00:49.981s.

Only the top three drivers managed to post a sub-50 second lap in Practice 2. Further lock ups and minor scrapes with the barriers took place in the session as all 22 drivers tested the track limits behind the wheel of their Gen2 challengers. The 2019 Monaco E-Prix is the first time the new generation car has raced on the tight city streets of the principality.

Trouble for NIO's Oliver Turvey in the early morning session saw the British driver make it out for a more substantial run in the second practice. Still, his time saw him only place 17th after the session ended.

After setting the fastest time in the first session, Audi Sport Abt Schaffler's Lucas di Grassi finished the second practice fifth behind Panasonic Jaguar Racing's Alex Lynn.
