Buemi: no championship has a brighter future

Buemi: no championship has a brighter future

Ex-Formula E champion Sebastien Buemi reckons that the all-electric racing series is the place to be for manufacturers in motorsport right now.

In the run-up to the Hydro-Quebec Montreal ePrix, both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche confirmed that they would be joining the series in Season 6. This followed off the back of Audi Sport cementing its entry into champion for Season 4 and BMW solidifying its relationship with Andretti for Season 5.

The addition of the four German giants to the ranks already occupied by Jaguar, Renault, DS, Mahindra, NextEV and Faraday Future means that Formula E has more manufacturer support than any other motorsport series.

“It’s beyond any dreams for Formula E,” Buemi admitted. “It’s amazing news. Clearly [Mercedes and Porsche] it’s for Season 6, so we still have to do Seasons 4 and 5, but I think there is no championship in motorsport right now that has a brighter future. As a driver, being part of it from the start, it’s amazing and it definitely shows that politically all the manufacturers are going in the same direction. Even two years ago I would not have expected that, so everyone should enjoy it because we have great cars, great venues and there are great manufacturers joining.”

Despite winning the most races, and leading the championship for every week before the final round, Buemi suffered an unexpected defeat to Lucas di Grassi over the Montreal ePrix double header. Nevertheless his Renault e.dams team won the Teams’ title for the third season in succession.
