Agag: This has been our take-off season

Formula E Founder and CEO believes the 2016/17 season has been a ‘take-off’ one for the championship.

Speaking after the final race of the season, where the championship dramatically swung from Sebastien Buemi to Lucas di Grassi, and coming after a week when both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche confirmed future entries to the all-electric racing series, he said: “I think it’s been the take-off season for Formula E with all the attention and all the new entries. I think this last weekend meant we really ended on a high with Lucas coming from behind and winning the drivers’ championship and Renault keeping a very well deserved teams’ championship.”

The season finale in Montreal was sold out, with the packed grandstands treated to a typically unpredictable race. Pre-race, few would have predicted how the wheels would come off Buemi’s title challenge, and Agag was sympathetic to the former champion’s plight.

“I think Sebastien did a fantastic season, but sometimes in racing you get these disastrous weekends and it happened here and that was unfortunate for him. But all in all I think it’s a great result for everyone and for Formula E.”

Formula E returns for the 2017/18 season with the Hong Kong ePrix on December 2/3.
