The Formula E drivers have praised the new layout of the Tempelhofring circuit, which hosts the Berlin ePrix on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

While the location of the track at Tempelhof Airport is the same as the venue for the Season 1 Berlin ePrix, the design of the track is very different – not least the run between Turns 3 and 4, which takes the cars inside of the EMOTION Club VIP hospitality area.

The winner of the Season 1 race at Tempelhof, Faraday Future Dragon Racing’s Jerome D’Ambrosio, said: “I think it great. I like the way they’ve created a technical circuit.

“Going through the EMOTION is awesome, it will really give the fans in there a true impression of how fast the cars are and how close we get to the barriers. I think it also shows that we don’t have to always race on street circuits. This place has so much history and it really reflects the character of the city, which is a bit edgy. It’s cool.”

Reigning champion Sebastien Buemi echoed these sentiments. “The team have a done a great job learning from Season 1, and taking the lessons we learned then and making a track that is better for racing these cars.

“Racing through the EMOTION is a great idea and there are a few places where overtaking is possible. The Shakedown was very relevant and we learned a few things, especially about the tyres. I think we could see quite high degradation here.”
