Buemi hails first win from pole in Monaco

E.dams-Renault driver Sebastien Buemi has expressed his delight at becoming the first double-winner in the championship after winning the Monaco ePrix.

The Swiss driver led the race from pole in a lights-to-flag finish to kick off the European leg of the season.

He said: “To win in Monaco is a great feeling. I knew about this thing of everyone starting on pole and not winning the race, so it was good in the end to finally manage that, especially here as we could see it's very difficult to overtake. “

An aggressive strategy from Lucas di Grassi and the Audi Sport ABT team to try and undercut Buemi in the pitstops resulted in the pair dicing in close quarters at the Harbour Hairpin, but Buemi placed his car well to stand on the top step of the podium.

He added: “I had a good fight with Lucas when we changed the car, but really, really on the limit. I knew clearly that the fact he would have to do more laps after, so I thought if I can exit just in front of him, I knew it would be a bit easier."

Buemi’s win meant that he has closed to within 10 points of championship leader di Grassi, and six points behind second-placed Nelson Piquet Jr (NEXTEV TCR) with four races to go.
