Vergne takes pole in Berlin

Buemi starts second in Germany

Vergne takes pole in Berlin

Jean-Eric Vergne scored his first pole position as a DS Virgin Racing driver, to lead the way in qualifying for the BMW i Berlin ePrix.

Vergne out-paced Sebastien Buemi by just 0.016s to go fastest. Buemi had been quickest in the qualifying groups, but the Renault e.dams driver fell just short. Daniel Abt starts third for the Abt Schaeffler team after a very impressive effort in his home race.

“I’m really happy with pole position,” said Vergne. “Everything is going well at the moment. I hope we can get a better result than in Paris. Here there are a lot of opportunities to overtake, so it’s going to be difficult, but I’m going to give it my best and I have nothing to lose.”

For the first time ever Mahindra had both cars in the Super Pole, but neither Bruno Senna nor Nick Heidfeld had a clean lap and they will start fourth and fifth respectively, a career best for the Brazilian.

After taking pole last time out in Paris, Sam Bird just missed out on making the cut for Super Pole and will start sixth. Seventh is defending champion Nelson Piquet Jr, easily the best qualifying performance of the year for the NEXTEV team with Oliver Turvey starting ninth.

Nico Prost was looking set for Super Pole, but went in too deep into the final corner and lost a lot of time. With the track improving during every session, Lucas di Grassi had to sit and watch as he dropped down the order after setting his lap in the first qualifying group. He will line up 10th for the race.

Rene Rast will start 17th for his first Formula E race, and he will line up alongside his Team Aguri team-mate Ma Qing Hua on the final row.
