Nicolas Prost scored his first Formula E podium in the Buenos Aires ePrix. But while it was the best result of the season for the e.dams-Renault racer, it came against the odds. For a start he was feeling unwell, and given the soaring temperatures in Argentina this was only magnified. But also for the first time in the season he had been out-qualified by team-mate Sebastien Buemi as he struggled to get the best out of the car around the tricky Buenos Aires circuit.
“I didn’t feel very comfortable on the brakes for some reason in the morning, in the afternoon in the race it was much better,” he said. “I had no feeling in qualifying under braking and I was losing time into the big hairpin. You have to look at the podium when you don’t feel very well and hopefully I can stick it on pole again.”
With both Buemi and points leader Lucas di Grassi failing to finish, Prost’s second place has closed him into contention in the championship. He is now fourth overall, 16 points down on di Grassi.
“Things turned my way a little bit,” he said. “We all know what happened in Beijing, Putrajaya I started P11 and finished P4, in the last race I should have gotten on the podium without the penalty, so things turned my way a little bit. It was not my best race in terms of pace but I finished where I finished.”
