Kevin Siggy full of confidence ahead of Formula E: Accelerate Round 4

Ice cool Race at Home Challenge winner Kevin Siggy (BMW i Andretti Motorsport) is riding high after his Round 3 win in Formula E: Accelerate. As we cross the competition's half-way stage, he's switching from damage limitation to all-out attack.

Kevin Siggy (BMW i Andretti Motorsport) sits second in the Formula E: Accelerate standings as the six-race esports series heads to Round 4 and Diriyah this evening (19:00 UTC) with the grid of 24 sim racing elites on the hunt for a share of a €100,000 prize pool and a real-world Gen2 test drive.

The Slovenian aced the Race at Home Challenge - Formula E's first esports competition - but he struggled to adapt in the opening rounds of Accelerate.

'I needed that win, I was down on confidence'

Nerves had been getting the better of Siggy but he fired back at standings leader Erhan Jajovski (ROKiT Venturi Racing) with the win in Round 3 at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport Circuit.

That broke Jajovski's winning streak and cut the North Macedonian's points lead to nine, with three races, including a double-points finale, to come. Siggy now feels he's back on-song.

"I was pretty confident going into Rounds 1 and 2 so those performances stung pretty badly," said the 22-year-old. "Screwing up Round 1 was a big pain to deal with and it correlated into Round 2, as well, with a poor qualifying there.

"I didn’t get qualifying right in either and it screwed me over. It was basically damage limitation and I didn’t enjoy it. I should have done a much better job.

"To get the win in Round 3 was really satisfying because of what came before and nailing the lap in qualifying was super tough and even in practice was difficult. That’s given me the motivation for the next races and the confidence boost that I really needed because I was down after the opening races."

How Round 3 was won

"The race itself was pretty nerve-wracking in the first few laps because I had only 1.5," says Siggy. "Seconds in hand when I needed to use ATTACK MODE– which was a push to activate without losing a position as a result.

"With Freddie (Rasmussen) behind, he’s always so fast and it was kind of me picking up the pieces when he got through and I managed to pass him back in about four corners. That was a crucial move.

"I got the perfect gap for the second ATTACK MODE and from then on, it was an easier race. I had my engineer in my ear every single lap so I knew what the energy consumption should be and it was easy to manage because of that. I finished with a percent in hand but it was still good and it’ll be a case of replicating that in the next one."

'Any mistake will lose you five positions'

"I think being consistent has put me in this position," adds Siggy. "Keeping that consistency is key because of the final round being double points. I don’t think I can hope to pull out much of a gap by then, so it’s just about staying close to the leader and keeping the gap to third. Podiums, poles and staying in touch is crucial.

"I think it’s going to be a battle between me and Freddie (Rasmussen) in the last three rounds in the fight with Erhan (Jajovski) as I think we’re the strongest drivers in the series. It’s going to be really tough and when Freddie doesn’t score points, it’ll be me and Erhan scoring well.

"Any mistake is going to lose you five positions, as happened with Erhan in Berlin. Perfecting qualifying will be key to beating him. It’s super hard to pass each other in the race but as long as I keep it out of the wall and nail qualifying, I will be giving myself the best opportunity."
