Despite fears of no contract for the rapidly approaching 2019/20 season, Daniel Abt has been confirmed alongside Lucas di Grassi as Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler drivers for the new season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, following the season finale in New York City on July 13 and 14.
With the news that both Lucas di Grassi and German teammate Daniel Abt will remain with the team for the 2019/20 season, the pair will embark on their sixth season together after the season forthcoming season finale this weekend in New York City. The pair are the only teammates to remain unchanged since the series launched in 2014.
With a track record of 40 podium finishes and a grand total of 1,027 points, Abt and di Grassi are the most successful duo in Formula E. With a partnership dating back to the first race in Beijing in September 2014, the two drivers have contested 56 races side by side and brought home the teams’ championship title in New York City last season – beating rivals Techeetah by just two points. With a gap of 43 points between them and DS Techeetah teams this time around, Audi would need nothing short of a miracle in New York City to secure a second consecutive title.
