Joel Eriksson made his Formula E comeback last weekend, representing Envision Racing in Berlin. The 25-year-old Swede is the Test, Reserve and Simulator driver for the Jaguar TCS Racing team, but was loaned out to customer team Envision for the Tempelhof double-header.
Eriksson had eight Formula E starts to his name before the 2024 SUN MINIMEAL Berlin E-Prix, driving for DRAGON PENSKE AUTOSPORT in Season 7 of the all-electric championship.

Lining up alongside rookie Paul Aron, Eriksson managed to achieve his best-ever result when he finished ninth in Round 10.
“Finished in the points, so that’s very good,” he said after the weekend had come to an end. “Very happy to score that for the team, which was the main goal this weekend.
“Overall it has been a good weekend for us, especially on Sunday. We made a lot of steps in the right direction and improved our pace, both for myself and the car and had a very strong qualifying.”
The day prior, Eriksson was forced to retire after contact, but was ready to bounce back for Sunday’s event. Having just missed out on the Duels for Round 10, Eriksson lined up in 11th on the grid for the race.
“I fought very hard and brought the car back up into the points, finishing P9 in the end. So very good points. I am happy with the opportunity I have been given and hopefully will be back soon on the Formula E grid.”
These two points are also the first for the team since regular driver Robin Frijns locked in ninth place in Tokyo for Round 5. It’s been a tough few races for the reigning Teams’ World Champions, who started the season with podiums for both Frijns and Sebastien Buemi in Diriyah and Mexico City, respectively.

On the other side of the garage, Paul Aron made his Formula E race debut.
“It was crazy,” the 20-year-old Estonian said after finishing his first Formula E race. “Definitely not something I am used to before and I have never been side-by-side with that many cars for that long to be honest! This race, the amount of time I spent by the side of other cars was the equivalent to what I have done in the past three years of my career.”

Both Frinjs and Buemi will be back to their normal duties from Shanghai, after having another commitment over the Berlin weekend which is why both Eriksson and Aeon stepped in as super substitutes.
