Albon and Nissan e.dams part ways

With less than 19 days to go until the 2018/19 season opener in Saudi Arabia, newcomers Nissan e.dams will part ways with its rookie driver Alex Albon ahead of its debut season in the ABB FIA Formula E championship.

Fresh from the FIA Formula 2 championship Albon will take up a different opportunity in motorsport, leaving seasoned Formula E driver and former champion Sebastien Buemi to lead the team into its first season with a new teammate. Details of Albon's replacement will be revealed this Friday, November 30 at the Nissan e.dams 2018/19 season launch event in Tokyo.

After testing the team's new Gen2 car in Calafat during the off-season, Albon failed to make an appearance out on track during the official pre-season test in Valencia, leading to speculation of Albon's impending departure. On the final day, 26-year-old British driver Oliver Rowland stepped in to pilot the 22 car alongside Buemi.

Albon leaves behind a wealth of new talent entering into the Championship, including BMW i Andretti's Alex Sims, Geox Dragon's Max Guenther, HWA's Gary Paffett and Stoffel Vandoorne, Venturi Formula E Team's Felipe Massa and Mahindra Racing's Pascal Wehrlein. With new cars, new teams, new driver and new rules, get ready for the most unpredictable season of wheel-to-wheel street racing yet. Buckle up, it's going to be big.
