HWA AG join the Formula E grid for Season 5

HWA AG to become the 11th team on the ABB FIA Formula E Championship grid in Season 5.

HWA AG join the Formula E grid for Season 5

With only four races remaining of the current season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, there are more developments set for Season 5 as HWA AG are added to the grid.

After the HWA racing team - best known for its success in the German DTM series - partnered up with the Venturi Formula E team ahead of Season 4, HWA AG will now extend their existing relationship with the Monaco-based team to receive powertrains for the 2018/19 season.

Forming its own team, HWA's entry into the championship, alongside the full entry list will be confirmed and published by the FIA in advance of Season 5, when the new, faster and more energy efficient Gen2 cars hit the track.

“Formula E is a completely new motorsport discipline with extremely tough competition,” said Ulrich Fritz, CEO of HWA AG. “It’s a challenge that we’re very happy to rise to. HWA AG are the most successful team ever in DTM history. Our goal is to continue the company’s success story in Formula E."

Founded in 1998, HWA AG is currently under contract to Daimler AG’s motorsport department to provide a full range of services in the DTM series for the marque.

“Not only does Formula E have a new-look and unique visual identity for season five, with the futuristic next-generation car - but we also have exciting news with a new team entering the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in HWA AG," said Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag. "It’s rewarding to see a name so synonymous with racing join the already impressive and growing list of teams and manufacturers competing in Formula E."

Venturi, as a founding team within the series, currently fronts two Mercedes-AMG Motorsport drivers – Edoardo Mortara and Maro Engel - who currently sit 11th and 12th in the championship, with the team placed 7th. “I’m delighted to contribute to HWA AG’s arrival as a Formula E team, by providing them our Venturi Gen2 cars for next season," said Gildo Pastor, President of the Venturi Formula E Team. "Our partnership over the current season is a win for both organisations. I have no doubt that the experience of Venturi Automobiles in high-performance electric vehicles will be a valuable asset for HWA AG, who will be keen to add to an already impressive record.”
