Formula E back in the Big Apple to launch the New York auto show

For the first time since DS Virgin Racing's Sam Bird clinched a double victory in New York City, the ABB FIA Formula E Championship headed back to the Big Apple to lead the launch of the New York Auto Show, ahead of the Formula E season finale in on July 14 and 15. Tickets go on sale April 3 - click here for more information.

Breaking from his usual role of piloting the Panasonic Jaguar Racing car on track, former champ Nelson Piquet Jr. led the way a convoy of all-electric vehicles as they headed down 11th Ave. en route to the Javits Centre behind the wheel of the Formula E car. "To be the first to drive the Formula E car on the streets in New York has been a lot of fun, said Piquet Jr. "I love this city and I've enjoyed the opportunity to promote electric vehicles like the new Jaguar I-Pace, our first all-electric performance SUV, and launch the New York City E-Prix. The new track layout will make the racing more competitive and New York is the perfect place for the championship finale in July."

Behind him, drove a fleet of full-electric cars including Jaguar's new I-Pace, which launched last month at the Geneva motor show. Just months after deliveries of Jag's first production battery-powered car begin in summer, the I-Pace will take to the track in the I-Pace eTROPHY support series, new for the fifth season of the championship.

After Formula E made history last year with the first FIA-sanctioned open-wheel race to take place within the five boroughs of New York City, its time to do it all over again on July 14 and 15, for the doubleheader season finale.

Featuring an even longer track than last season, spanning 1.52-miles (2.45-km), the drivers will race along the waterfront, in front of fans and families, lining the track. Who will win? Join us to find out. It's all still to play for.
