Formula E raises race power for Season 4

Formula E raises race power for Season 4

The all-electric Formula E cars will have an additional 10kw of power in race mode next season.

The announcement was made at yesterday’s World Motor Sport Council in Geneva and was part of a series of changes that will be introduced next season.

The rise in race power from 170kw to 180kw will mean that the races are either faster next season or even longer, showcasing how the technology deployed in Formula E is advancing the development of electric car technology.

Other changes help to fine-tune the way the race weekends run and the amount of testing that can take place. In relation to the latter, there has been an additional test day added during the season, with yet another day test day – exclusively for rookie drivers – also available.

The number of filming days the teams are permitted has been increased from three to six, but only half of these are allowed to take place on a permanent race circuit. This is designed to increase the number of street demos that the teams organise.

Finally, during double header races – of which there will be three in Season 4 – there will only be a single free practice on the second day, rather than the two sessions as is currently the case.
