Mercedes-EQ, Vandoorne: 'We're up for the fight'

Mercedes-EQ, Vandoorne: 'We're up for the fight'

Stoffel Vandoorne and Mercedes-EQ head to New York City off the back of a couple of disappointing results, relatively speaking, as the Belgian fights with three others for the ABB FIA Formula E World Drivers' Championship.

Fifth in Jakarta and a battling drive back to eighth from 20th on the grid last time out in Marrkaesh wasn't enough to hold top spot for Vandoorne, who had led prior to the trip to Morocco.

Edoardo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) now leads the way after his Round 10 win. Add to that a podium in Jakarta, and he's looking the man to beat, though New York City hasn't been kind to the Swiss-French-Italian triple national in the past - with a best finish in Red Hook of just 14th.

Vandoorne's fared little better in the Big Apple - eighth in Season 5 while driving for HWA his highlight at the tricky Brooklyn Street Circuit. At minimum, he'll need to match Mortara with just six rounds of Season 8 to come.

"I'm looking forward to being back in New York," says Vandoorne. "It's a fantastic city and it's great to race here. New York might not have been the best hunting ground for us in the past, but hopefully we can change that this year and come home with a good result.

"We have a very intense month ahead of us with the last six races of the season. It's important now to put in a very good final run and just give everything, leave nothing on the table, make no mistakes and then we'll see how it goes. But I'm traveling to New York with confidence and looking forward to being back on track."

"When you think of Formula E, you think not just of exciting racing, but also exciting locations," adds  Ian James, Team Principal. "With the city of New York providing the backdrop to this weekends' race, I think that couldn't be more true. We've already been to some amazing places so far this season and I'm thrilled to add New York City to the list of races in Season 8.

"As a team, one other thing we're hoping to add to this weekend is our points total in the World Championship standings. Although we've had some great results earlier in the season, we weren't able to realise our potential in Marrakesh. However, we understand the reasons behind the shortfall and are looking to regain our competitive edge at this event."
