FP3: Nick Cassidy heads the way in early morning session in Rome amid mixed conditions

Envision Virgin Racing's Nick Cassidy got a full-power 250kW run in before the drizzle in Free Practice 3 ahead of the Rome E-Prix Round 4 to top the timesheets.

Nick Cassidy (Envision Virgin Racing) squeezed in a 1m40.107s on full power before the drizzle arrived in Rome early in Free Practice 3. He headed BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Maximilian Guenther by 0.049 seconds with the pair the only two who posted a 250kW run prior to the rain.

Conditions were tough, with air temperatures cool at 16 celsius and drizzle at a couple of spots around the 19-turn 3.385km Circuito Cittadino dell'EUR. Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-EQ) and Alex Lynn (Mahindra Racing) were both caught out at the chicane - the Dutchman taking to the escape road while the Brit gave the barriers a nudge.

WAYS TO WATCH: Where and how to watch every minute of Season 7

Times tailed off by more than five seconds from Cassidy and Guenther's early runs as the session headed towards its end and the drizzle, temperatures and tyre pressures continued to fall.

NIO 333 successfully rebuilt Oliver Turvey a car around a new tub following his incident at the end of Free Practice 1 which allowed the Brit to get some exploratory laps under his belt to ensure everything was working as it should be.

Teams work through everything from their systems, setups, FANBOOST and ATTACK MODE deployments, launches and energy management profiles throughout practice to make sure they're on-point for qualifying and the race later in the day, and that the hours of simulator work they carry out ahead of every Formula E event make sense in the real world.

FANBOOST

Voting is still open for FANBOOST until 15 minutes into Round 4, with Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) topping the charts as it stands ahead of DS TECHEETAH’s reigning champion Antonio Felix da Costa, Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans, Nick Cassidy (Envision Virgin Racing) and Sam Bird (Jaguar Racing).

YOUR VOTE COUNTS! Give your favourite driver a power-boost with FANBOOST

Coverage of qualifying ahead of Round 4 follows at 09:00 local time, with the race itself to come at 13:00 CEST. In the meantime, catch up with yesterday's action from the Rome E-Prix Round 3.
