Updates regarding cost-consolidation and qualifying format for the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship have been announced following the latest FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting (Friday October 9).
Cost-consolidation
Ahead of the debut of the first ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season, the FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved the next series of cost-consolidation measures with the long-term financial stability of championship participants in mind.
Following measures already introduced earlier this year, production parts - not mandatory related to a single supplier - and spare parts will now be limited. Data acquisition has been restricted to a certain number of sensors on the car to reduce the amount of analysis being done in between sessions.
It has also been decided that each entry will now use no more than one VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) software update per competition.
Qualifying tweaks
To increase the excitement of the TV product and align with drivers only being allowed to complete one hot-lap during the qualifying group stage, the amount of time for each qualifying group will be reduced from six to four minutes.
