The image of Formula E racing in the heart of Moscow with the background of St. Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin walls has been beamed around the world. If the goal of the organisers of the championship of the first fully-electric series was to arrive in the centre of the major cities of the world, they achieved it in the Russian capital.
"We dreamed of bringing Formula E in the most beautiful cities of the world, Moscow was one of those dreams and we realised it,” said Alejandro Agag after the inaugural Moscow ePrix. "Racing here with this scenario, this light and a passionate audience (at least ten thousand people attended the event during the day) is a great result for us."
But it is not over in terms of dream scenarios as the schedule for season two is set to be revealed soon that will see the addition of one or two new locations. "Perhaps there will be other equally iconic cities such as Moscow, although hard to find something quite like that,” anticipated Agag. “There will soon be an announcement. We are talking to the representatives of many cities to try to put together for the championship to come to the most beautiful cities around the world."
From the sporting point of view the race in Moscow saw Nelson Piquet Jr win again after his previous success in Long Beach, giving him an important boost to his chances of becoming the first Formula E champion. "I do not think that it can only be his title to lose. It’s true that he put together an important advantage but not decisive because [Lucas] di Grassi was able to secure at least second place. If Lucas had collected little or no points then maybe Nelson would be almost sure to win but it is still open, because London will be a double-header event."
In fact, after having made stops in nine cities and eight countries, Formula E is now preparing to compete in the final event in the British capital, in a double-header (27 and 28 June) on the circuit in Battersea Park. "We will arrive in London after a long and tiring season but we will be in good shape and we are looking forward to the race in that city, where we have our headquarters, and with a championship still to be decided. I'm sure many people will be on the track and attend two fantastic races."
