It was a dramatic final few corners across Round 14 of the 2026 TDK Tokyo E-Prix, as race leader Jake Dennis suffered an issue with his Andretti which allowed CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum to take full advantage in a super move for the win in the final seconds.
This marks Ticktum’s second win in Formula E, after his maiden victory in Jakarta last season, and comes at a great time as he explained to the media that he’s currently a ‘free agent’ and seeking a contract for next year.
“It’s kind of like my Jakarta win, actually,” Ticktum said on his special win around the streets of Tokyo, the same place where he achieved a maiden podium in 2025.

“A lot of emotions behind that win. Proving the usual idiots wrong because I've had a very poor season. The win today was just pure merit from my side, from the strategy side, from the engineer's side, you know, that was just merit. So, that one felt a lot better.”
Ticktum started sixth, and timed his PIT BOOST and ATTACK MODE well to shoot himself up the grid. He was passed by Jake Dennis with seven laps to go, and said on the radio that he was happy to let fellow compatriot Dennis take the win and settle for second.
However, on the last lap of the race and with Citroën Racing’s Nick Cassidy in close pursuit, a cut out to Dennis’ power resulted in Ticktum swooping past for the lead of the race with metres until the finish line.
“It feels good to win in one of my favourite cities,” Ticktum continued. “We prepared our strategy very heavily for today and we did a good job over the first 16 laps to save energy while staying inside the top five.

“When the pit window opened and the cars in front of me stayed out, it was a no-brainer to box and push to the ATTACK MODE on the out lap. I had clean air which is when ATTACK MODE makes the biggest difference and by pushing at 350kW in all-wheel drive, we also put less stress and load on the rear tyres.
“When I was behind Jake [Dennis] I was able to save some energy, I saw him have the energy cut and went for the move. Overall, I’m very happy because today couldn’t have gone any better.
“When I won in Jakarta last year, there was maybe a little bit of luck involved but today was based on pure merit. We’ve had some terrible luck this season, and I’m proud of the engineers and mechanics for pushing through. We have another race tomorrow and now, we just need to replicate.”
