Jose Maria 'Pechito' Lopez joined Formula E initially in 2016 as the reigning World Touring Car Champion. For the 2018/19 season, Lopez remains with the US team Dragon.
Before joining the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, Lopez enjoyed a successful career in touring car racing. After a stunning debut in a one-off entry in the WTCC in his home race in Argentina, 2013, he was snapped up by Citroen the following year for its new World Touring Car Championship programme.
Three straight world titles followed between 2014 and 2016 but despite his success in the series, the Argentinian driver moved back to single-seater racing the same year, when he was signed by the Virgin Racing outfit. The move marked Pechito's move back to single-seater racing for the first time since he raced in GP2 against the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Lucas di Grassi and Adam Carroll in 2006.
In his debut season, Pechito managed a top ten finish with the team before moving to Dragon for its 2017/18 campaign. A tough second season for Lopez left saw him finish 17th overall by the end of the season. For his third straight season in the series, Lopez continues to race for Dragon in the teams Gen2 Penkse EV-3.
