Following a Rookie test with Venturi Formula E Team after the 2018 Marrakesh E-Prix, Paffett got his first full-time drive in the series with HWA Racelab ahead of its debut in season 5.
With a motorsport career dating back to 1993, Paffett is one of the most experienced drivers in the Championship. Best known for his success in the German DTM series, the British driver has claimed two championship titles in the series, one in 2005 for HWA and again in 2018 for the Mercedes outfit.
Born in Bromley in 1981, Paffett claimed his first Championship victory in Karts at the age of 14. Within the next five years, Paffett went on to claim three more titles before being named by the British Racing Drivers Club McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year in 1999. Just three years later, Paffett went on to win the Formula 3 German Championship before switching from single seaters to the German DTM series, where he joined Team Rosberg. But it wasn't until 2005 with HWA's DTM team that the British driver clinched his first championship title after securing five wins over the season in 2005.
Between 2006 and 2017, Paffett split his time between the DTM and as test and as the reserve driver for McLaren Mercedes Formula One and, more recently, as test and simulator driver for Williams Formula One team. In 2018, he claimed his second DTM championship title with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team before partnering with Stoffel Vandoorne for HWA's debut season in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
