What's new & who's who in season four?

Since its inaugural season in 2014, the FIA Formula E Championship has grown year-on-year, with a variety of teams, faces and places making an appearance in the world's first all-electric single-seater series. Now, rapidly approaching the start of its fourth season, there's more exciting changes on the horizon. Ahead of round one in Hong Kong, here's all that's new and a who's who in Season Four of the FIA Formula E Championship.

Newfaces
In the words of the series' Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag, "Formula E is becoming a destination for some of the best drivers in the world." And with that, Season Four welcomes in four new faces to the grid in the form of seasoned endurance drivers Andre Lotterer and Neel Jani, as well as former Italian IndyCar driver Luca Filippi and experienced DTM pro, Edoardo Mortara.

Andre Lotterer

Best known for his success in endurance racing, including a driver's title in the FIA World Endurance Championship and three victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Lotterer joins teammate Jean-Eric Vergne at TECHEETAH.

Neel Jani

Dragon Racing driver Neel Jani, like Lotterer, comes to Formula E from the world of endurance racing, driving in GP2 single-seaters prior to that. With the addition of Zurich to the race calendar this season, Jani will be up against fellow Swiss driver Sebastian Buemi, fighting to be crowned hometown hero.

Luca Filippi

Former Italian IndyCar driver Luca Filippi is no stranger to single-seater driving. Having started his career in Formula Renault before graduating to Formula 3000 and GP2, Filippi moved to IndyCar in 2013, competing in the series until joining NIO Formula E team earlier this year.

Edoardo Mortara

The Italian driver first stepped up to Formula driving in 2006, starting out in Formula Renault, before graduating to Formula Three Euroseries and on to the German DTM championship in 2011. Mortara raced for various teams in the series until his debut with Venturi Formula E team at pre-season testing in Valencia.

New places

With 14 races taking place in 11 host cities, across five continents, Season Four has one of the most exciting race calendars to date. Alongside bringing back circuit racing to Switzerland for the first time in over 60 years with the Zurich E-Prix, the series will also be making its debut on the streets of Rome, Santiago, and Sao Paulo. More power

In Season Four, the cars will benefit from an additional 10kW of power in race mode. Increasing the power output from 170kW to 180kW means either faster or longer races for Season Four, showcasing how Formula E technology is advancing the development of electric road cars.
