Buemi draws Group 1 for crucial qualifying

Buemi draws Group 1 for crucial qualifying

Sebastien Buemi has drawn the unfavourable Group 1 for today’s Qualifying session for the Hydro-Quebec Montreal ePrix.

The reigning champion has an 18-point deficit to Lucas di Grassi and the three bonus points for the Julius Baer Pole Position would be a huge boost in his aim to defend his title.

However, traditionally Group 1 is the slowest of the four, making his progress to Super Pole tricky. Di Grassi on the other hand is in Group 4, and will fancy his chances of repeating his pole-winning form from yesterday.

Formula E qualifying works by the drivers taking to the track in four groups of five, which each get six minutes during which they have to set their best time with 200kw power. The five fastest drivers in the group stages advanced to Super Pole.

Here the drivers take to the track one at a time for a single 200kw flying lap. The fastest driver in Super Pole claims Julius Baer Pole Position and three bonus points.
